The News Media and U.S. Presidential Elections: Transatlantic Perspectives
Seit der Präsidentschaft von George W. Bush Jr. erregen die amerikanischen Präsidentenwahlen nicht nur in den Vereinigten Staaten, sondern weltweit - und besonders in Europa - hohe Aufmerksamkeit erregt. In transatlantischer Hinsicht gilt diese hohe Aufmerksamkeit weithin als Ausdruck der Differenzen zwischen Europa und den USA, die im Zuge des letzten Irakkrieges aufgebrochen sind. Allerdings gehen die Meinungen über die Natur und die Bedeutung dieser Differenzen weit auseinander. Während einige politische Beobachter sie eher für ein vorübergehende Begleiterscheinung des letzten Irak-Krieges halten, die die gemeinsamen Interessen Europas und der USA nicht in Frage stellt, sprechen andere von einer wachsenden Wertedifferenz seit dem Ende des Kalten Krieges und der Intensivierung des europäischen Einigungsprozesses, die nicht ohne Auswirkungen für die transatlantische Allianz bleiben wird. Angesichts der weltpolitischen Bedeutung des amerikanisch-europäischen Bündnisses soll in einem vergleichenden Forschungsprojekt der Frage nach der Natur und Dauer dieser Differenzen anhand einer vergleichenden Analyse der Medienberichterstattung zu den US-Wahlen seit 2004 diesseits und jenseits des Atlantik nachgegangen werden.
